Dont Take The Christ Out Of Christmas!
Hey guys, Its only 2 days till Christmas! And you all know what that Means; Presents! Santa! Reindeer! Did I mention Presents? hang on, hang on, hang on...somethings not right there...Is that really what christmas is about? sure, we give each other presents but what is the real reason? Lets have a look at the word, Christmas. its made up of two words, Christ and mas. Mas comes from an Old English word; mæsse which means festival. So really christmas is Christ's Festival, a celebration of God's greatest gift to our world, The birth of Jesus Christ. Notice how it's not called Presentmas? or Santamas? But dispite the blatently obvious Christ in christmas, a lot of people in this world forget completely about him. There's a whole generation of kids out there to whom, christmas means no more than presents and the big red guy who brings them. They dont care about some baby who was born in a stable in Israel 2000 years ago. All they want is Santa's gifts.
Just stop for a minute and think about what this time of year means to you? Have you been taken over by the commercialisation of Christmas? Is it Presentmas for you? Think about the reason for the season, who deserves your worship? Jesus or Santa? Just take a moment and wish Jesus a happy birthday and dont forget about him!
On an unrelated note, I start working on monday :D I'm really looking forward to it, should be awesome!
Have Merry Christmas and a Happy New year
God Bless and Be safe

Health Food From The Bible (Minus The Food)
Living according to the biblical moral order is healthier for both individuals and society. A lot of people would refuse to believe this but there is growing scientific evidence that backs up this argument. Medical studies are showing that people who regularly attend church and act consistently with their faith are better off, both physically and mentally. Consider these few findings:
Alcohol Abuse: Alcohol abuse is highest among those with little or no religious commitment. One study found nearly 89% of alcoholics said they lost interest in religion during their youth.
Drug Abuse: Numerous studies have found a link between religious commitment and drug abuse. Among young people, the importance of religion is the single best predictor of substance-abuse patterns. A study by Joseph Califano shows that in 80% of criminal offenses, alcohol or drugs were implemented. He also mentioned that every individual that he has met who successfully came off drugs or alcohol has given religion as the key to rehabilitation.
Crime: There is also a strong link between participation in religious activities and the avoidance of crime. In one study, Harvard professor Richard Freeman discovered that regular church attendance is the primary factor in preventing African-American urban young people from turning to drugs or crime. Another study showed that regular attendance to a Prison Fellowship Bible study cut returning to criminal habits by two-thirds
Depression and Stress: Several studies have found that high levels of religious commitment links with lower levels of depression and stress. In a survey, respondents with a strong religious commitment were twice as likely to describe themselves as “very happy”. Armand Nicholi, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a deeply committed believer, argues from his lifelong experience that Christians are far less likely to experience mental disorders than their secular counterparts. Why? Because “the one essential feature that characterizes all types of depression” is “the feeling of hopelessness and helplessness,” and Christians are never without hope.
Suicide: Persons who do not attend church are four times as likely to commit suicide than frequent churchgoers. In fact, lack of church attendance links more strongly with suicide rates than with any other risk factor, including unemployment.
Family Stability: A number of studies have found a strong link between church attendance and divorce, and one study found that church attendance is the most important predictor of marital stability. Religion also has shown itself to be an important factor in preventing teen sexual relationships, babies born out of wedlock, discord between parent and child, and other forms of family breakdown.
Marital and Sexual Satisfaction: Lest one think these numbers mean that religious people are staying in unhappy marriages from a sense of duty, consider these statistics. Churchgoers are more likely to say they would marry the same spouse again – an important measure of marital satisfaction. A 1978 study found that church attendance predicted marital satisfaction more than any other single variable. And the 1994 Sex in America study showed that very religious women enjoy a higher level of sexual satisfaction in their marriage than non-religious women do.
Physical Health: Studies have shown that maternity patients and their newborns have fewer medical complications if the mothers have a religious affiliation. Belonging to a religious group can lower blood pressure, relieve stress, and enhance survival after a heart attack. Heart patients with strong religious beliefs are much more likely to survive surgery. Elderly men and women who attend worship services are less depressed and physically healthier than their peers with no religious faith. They are also healthier than those who don’t attend worship services but watch religious television at home. People who go to church have lower blood pressure, even when risky behaviors such as smoking are factored in.
Science seems to be confirming the teaching of Proverbs: “The Fear of the Lord adds length to life” – Proverbs 10:27.
Wow, three posts in a week, thats a record for me :P

The Story Behind March 17th
Hey guys, sorry about the slow update. I finally got this all done. I was reading a book called "How Now Shall We Live?" by Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcy and I was reading this story and Its really inspirational so I thought I'd share it with you all. I know I said I'd do a post on Craig's message at the wedding but thinking about it now, I dont think its really appropriate to put here cause its not really going to apply to you guys...unless your married of course but theres hardly any, if any at all under that status who read my Blog. Anyway, on with the Story...
In A.D 401 a sixteen-year-old British boy named Patricius was seized by a raiding Irish war party, abducted from his Romanized homeland, and sold to a petty Irish chieftain named Miliucc, who sent the boy out to shepherd his flocks. Patricius spent months alone in the hills, hunger gnawing at his innards and the clammy cold biting into his limbs, until finally he sought help from the only source left: He began to pray.
Before this time, Patricius had not really believed in the God his Christian parents had taught him about, and he thought priests were fools. But he found in God a source of strength that helped him endure six long years of bitter isolation and deprivation. “Tending flocks was my daily work, and I would pray constantly during the daylight hours,” he wrote later. “The love of God and the fear of him surrounded me more and more – and faith grew and the Spirit was roused.”
Then one night, Patricius was awakened by a mysterious voice telling him that he was going home. “Look, your ship is ready,” said the voice. Although uncertain of the direction or distance, Patricius set out for the sea. More than two hundred miles later, he found a ship bound for England.
When he reached his homeland, however, Patricius discovered that he no longer fitted in with his people. “Hardened physically and psychologically by unsharable experiences, hopelessly behind his peers in education, he cannot settle down,” write historian Thomas Cahill. Then one night, the former slave boy heard Christ’s voice again, this time telling him to return to Ireland. He entered theological training and eventually returned as Patrick, missionary to the Irish.
This was no romantic return, set to the tune of Irish ballads. When St. Patrick began his mission, he faced pagan Irish priests (druids) who still practiced ritual human sacrifice to their monstrous Celtic gods (often portrayed eating people). The fierce Irish warriors, believing that the human head was the seat of the soul, hung their enemies’ skulls from their belts as trophies.
Into this bloodthirsty culture St. Patrick brought the Christian message of love and forgiveness and established monasteries throughout the land. The monastic movement in Ireland began to revolutionize the world, replacing the old values of a warrior society with the new values of Christianity. Within St. Patrick’s lifetime, warriors cast aside their swords of battle, intertribal warfare decreased markedly, and the slave trade ended. A culture of battle and brute power was transformed by an ethic that sanctified manual labor, poverty, and service. A culture of illiteracy and ignorance became a culture of learning.
Moreover, after Rome fell, the Irish monasteries also became refuges for vast numbers of Christian scholars and monks fleeing the barbarians, streaming in from all across Europe and even from as far away as Egypt, Armenia, and Syria. As a result, says historian Kenneth Clark, surprising as is may seem, “for quite a long time – almost 100 years – western Christianity survived by clinging to places like Skellig Michael, a pinnacle of rock eighteen miles form the Irish coast.” Yet survive it did, and eventually a flood of missionaries from Ireland fanned out across Scotland, England and the European continent. All along the way the monks established monasteries and carried on their tradition of copying and preserving the Bible, along with every other book they could get their hands on – including the great classics of the Greeks and Romans, some of which had not been seen in Europe for centuries. They also taught their converts Latin, music, and painting.
To give some idea of their success, by the early 600s nearly seven hundred monastic communities had been established along the rocky coasts and mountains of Scotland alone, and between A.D. 650 and A.D. 850 more than half of all known biblical commentaries were written by Irishmen. Everywhere they went, the Irish monks carried their Bibles and books around their waists, just as the Irish pagans had once tied their enemies’ skulls to their belts.
Amazing isn't it? Now you guys know why we have St. Patricks day. I think its just amazing that an ex-slave from Ireland, someone who was not too smart (education wise) could single handedly start a revolution in Ireland that changed the entire future of Christianity in the world. If someone like Patricius could do that, Why on earth would you think that God can't use you? Sure I know that every person isn't going to do something on that huge scale, but I'm saying that God can use anyone, no matter how smart they are, no matter their background, no matter what they've said or done, to do amazing things in this world. Our task is just to ask him "Lord, What would you have me do?" and then do what he says! Simple as that!
God Bless

One wedding and no Funerals
Hey everyone, Few peoples have been buggin me about updating (keep on doing it though!) and so here it is.
Yesterday afternoon I attended Sam and Jenny's Wedding (for those who dont know, they are too awesome people from my youth group) and It was a really special event. Everyone looked so good! The ceremony consisted of a hymn (a remix of amazing grace thanks to the guys from youth group) followed by prayers from the parents. After that they did something symbolic which I thought was quite special, there was a candelabra with three prongs. the outer ones had lit candles in them and the mothers of Sam and Jenny each took one and lit the centre candle, symbolising the formation of a new family. The declaration of intent by the couple came next (ya know, the I do part :P) and then Pastor Craig said some words. Next came the exchange of vows, rings and a kiss and finally Sam and Jenny took communion together while we sung another remixed Hymn. Very special day.
One thing I was thinking while I was sitting there was that I want my wedding to be similar, I want my wedding to really show that it isnt a regular marriage. That it is rather a marriage between me and my bride with Jesus fully involved in it. It will be my statement to all present, Christian or Non-christian that my family will also belong to God. Thats what I think is the vital key to a relationship that will be filled with joy.
I'll do another post later commenting about Pastor Craig's message at the wedding because I think it was just so awesome.
God bless you all!

An Update about...umm....SOMETHING?!?!?
Well I have some free time at the moment while I download a 25 MB update file (It's at 14%) so umm I decided (with a bit of pushing from Jared) that I should chuck something up here. Problem is I dont know what to put up here! Well ummm Exams are almost over for me, Only Biology tomorrow (grr, Evolution!) and then my final exam next tuesday, Drama. After that, I'm free from College! Forever! So what happens next is I pray and pray that I get that job at Countdown that I had a interview for a couple of days ago. My plan for the future goes something like this: Work and work and save and do some other things until about June Next year and somewhere in there get my learners and Restricted Licence. Sometime after June (or whenever I have my restricted) I'll buy a car and drive myself down to Christchurch. There I'm planning on auditioning to get into NASDA, the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts where I'll do a 3 year course and come out with a Bachelor of Performing Arts :D. So yeah, hopefully all those plans will work out!
Hmm, that covered about 7% worth...I need more! Well I'll just draw your attention to a few things here on my Blog. You'll notice on the Red bar at the side, a little box under the words Contact Me which is under Eh! Steve! there. Well this box signs you up so you'll recieve an e-mail each time I update so you dont have to keep on comin back here and checking until I do. Secondly, Thanks to all the people who are leaving me tags here, Nice to know that I have some readers! If you feel like saying anything that wont fit into the Tag box, theres a little link at the bottom of each post thats says Leave a Comment which (suprise, suprise) lets you leave me a comment! (shock!) Thirdly, I'm going to add another part to the red bar as soon as I'm finished here, this will be my links. I'll link a few sites myself and If you know of a site you think I should link to, or want me to link to yours, just leave me a tag or use the Contact Me link under Eh! Steve!
28%....I was just reminded of a funny joke as I was writing that... An American, An Englishman and an Asian were in the army, walking through the jungle on a mission. They had lost the rest of their squad and decided to continue with the mission regardless. The American said to the other two... "OK, Now, we have to continue! The entire war effort could count on the success of this mission! We need some new Weapons, some other recruits from the surrounding villiages and we need some supplies..."
" I say old chap, I'll get the recruits we need. I excelled in recuiting at training camp back home" Said the Englishman
" I'll handle the supplies, Sir!" Said the Asian
" Alright, I'll find us some guns. Meet me back here at 0600 hours. Lets Move!"
The three separated and went to do their various tasks. The next morning at 0600 hours, the Englishman arrived with a couple of villiagers eager to help. The American was not too far behind carrying a large crate of AK-47s on his back. They organised what they had and then started worrying about their third member... 0630 passed and they began to worry. Ordering the others to stay put, the American and Englishman dashed off in the direction the Asian left. After searching for an hour, they came to rest by a large tree. Just as they stopped, the Asian jumped out from behind the tree and yelled "SUPLISE, SUPLISE!"
hehe, Well I might sign off here now, leave me a tag or a comment, the usual:P
God Bless ya All!

I've Been listening recently to some of the newer songs I have on my computer and one of them has spoke to me about whats happening in my life and everything and I thought I'd share it with you all and maybe it could apply to some of you too? The song is by O.C Supertone and it's called Wilderness. I wont post all the lyrics here, but just the chorus because thats the main part thats relevant to what I'm talking about
Have you ever held in doubt
What this life is all about
Have you questioned all these things that seem important to us
Do you really wanna know
Or are you a little scared
You’re afraid that God is not really exactly what you’d have Him be
What should I hold to and what should I do
How do I know if anything’s true
I’m somewhere in-between Canaan and Egypt
A place called the wilderness
I think that actually it is more the last two lines that have inspired me more than the rest of the song. I'm somewhere in-between Canaan and Egypt. A place called the wilderness. These lines are of course referring to the Old Testament when the Israelites left Egypt for The promised land, a land flowing with Milk and honey; Canaan. But there was a little problem, they had to last for 40 years in the Wilderness. It was the same with me. Things happened in my life a while ago, Things that could be matched up to the enslaving of the Israelites in Egypt (ya know what I mean) And then Moses came and set his people free and they went into the wilderness for 40 years. After those events happened in my life, I was sent to my own Wilderness, This was a period of about 3 months where I was really down. Nothing seemed to be going right for me and I dont know but I might have been depressed. Everything that cheered me up didnt last but in that period I learned to rely on God to get me through and although I didnt know it then, He provided my Manna (the food that the Israelites ate in the wilderness, Bread from Heaven) during that time and he taught me things I wouldnt have learnt otherwise.
The really strange thing about this is God's timing... When I started writing this entry, I was in the wilderness. I knew Canaan was near but as I was writing this the remaining two of my major problems got pretty much sorted out! (the first happened earlier this morning) I think I am in the land of Milk and Honey which I always knew was at the end of my journey through the wilderness, or at least it is very much in sight.
Man, Isn't God's timing just amazing? Hey, Just my final thought, If you read this and you think "Hey, I think I might be in the wilderness at the moment", just remember this: God is providing your Manna, even when you think He's not there. And never forget whats at the end of your journey, The Promised Land. And knowing God, he'll probably let you arrive at the most unexpected time, like what happened to me...
God Bless you all!
